After a conversation with Senior Executives of Alzheimer’s Scotland our award winning Day/Night clock was developed. The design was initiated by depth of time issues that dementia causes. The issue arises as the person has no “depth of time” caused by short term memory issue. While we can remember the sequence of our day this can be difficult for someone living with Dementia.
Being able to orientate the time on the clock to daytime or nighttime helps structure the user's day as in both summer and winter light levels at, for example 9 am and 9 pm, are very similar however daily tasks at these times are very different.
Our range of clocks aid independent living which can be of benefit to carers and family members too as they are much less likely to be woken up by continuous telephone calls at 3 am as it’s mistaken 3 pm.
Leading on from our Day/Night Clock we developed our Day/Night Calendar Flip Clocks with the addition of day and date information displays along with time and orientation of day. Firstly our small version which was designed primarily for individual use then secondly our large wall mounted Day/Night Calendar Flip Clock which can be used for individual settings or communal areas.
Along side our orientation clocks we have also developed our Low Vision Yellow Clock which has been designed for high contrast and time visibility in conditions where eyesight can be affected such as dementia, cataract or macular degeneration.
Our clocks have been helping individuals all over the UK and Ireland and can be found in homes, Care Homes, Day Centres and Hospitals.
Our clocks are approved by Alzheimer Scotland and the Alzheimer's Society
